To become the guardian of a large number of children at once, send out all the guardianship requests simultaneously. You'll get 5-10 piety each time you take time to pray instead of teach (Occasionally some of the teaching options that come up also give piety, such as, I think, the "Zealous"-related one - always check the tooltip.) Choose the option to pray to Jesus instead, each time you have an opportunity to teach the child something. Oh, and another way to get piety is to become the guardian of as many children in your realm as possible. NOTE: If you are playing Muslims, you would want to try my strategies on someone who is not a Muslim Of course this did not leave many Muslim lands (or sinful local lands) for his successors to conquer. That guy could excommunicate anybody, anytime, anywhere, and hire the holy warriors whenever he felt like it. I had 8,910 piety with one of my kings when he died, due to crusades and joining in / creating lots of holy wars his whole reign. (As a bonus, the Pope likes this kind of initiative, and may send you money, especially if you are weak or poor.) Remember that you might be able to find someone else fighting a holy war, or defending against Muslims, and offer to join in for piety. This of course may not be a feasible strategy for your realm size and location. The special Muslim mercenaries are worth a huge amount of piety if you can wipe them out - so look for them, and take them out before they get full morale at the start of the war! If you can get to their lands quickly, you may be able to clean their clocks before they form a big, dangerous stack of soldiers. Beware his neighbors will probably join in. You can fight Muslims for piety at any time by locating a Muslim ruler and declaring a Holy War on him. Killing off a unit of about 7k soldiers gives around 90 piety. Fighting Muslims in battles gives a lot of piety - it doesn't need to be a Crusade (although Crusades are certainly best!).
